§ MR. T. CURRAN (Sligo, S.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he has received a memorial adopted by the priests of the Sligo Deanery of the diocese of Achonry, protesting against the Treasury guaranteeing the proposed railway from Ballaghaderreen to Castlerea, on the ground that it would injuriously affect the interests of the Collooney and Claremorris Railway, for which the Treasury and the Grand Juries of Sligo and Mayo have given guarantees; and, whether he can state that the Treasury have finally and absolutely refused to entertain the proposal with regard to the projected line from Ballaghaderreen to Castlerea?
MH. J. MORLEYMy attention has been drawn to the representations referred to in the question. As regards the second paragraph, I stated in reply to a question addressed to me on Tuesday last that there are no funds at the disposal of the Treasury available for fresh guarantees, and that even if they had, the proposed project is not one to which they could legally contribute under that Act.
