HC Deb 02 April 1895 vol 32 cc728-9
DR. MACGREGOR

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland if he is aware that complaints have been made, through the Press and otherwise, of the insanitary state of the combination Poorhouse at Lochmaddy, North Uist; and if he will cause inquiry to be made into the matter?

SIR GEORGE TREVELYAN

The absence of water supply in Lochmaddy Poorhouse has been repeatedly reported. Windmills erected for pumping have been blown down, and all water used must be carried. A special water district is now proposed for Lochmaddy, and it is hoped that the Poorhouse may be included. The attention of the House Committee was called to the sanitary state of the Poorhouse on March 15, on a report by the Medical Officer. I have only got the answer by telegraph, as the question was only on the Paper this morning.
