BEUNNER (Cheshire, Northwich)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he intends to make applicable to Chairmen of the District Councils, who are ex officio Justices of the Peace during their term of office, which extends to one year only, the fee of £2 which he proposes should be payable by Justices of the Peace who are appointed for life?
§ MR. ASQUITHThe case put by my hon. Friend appears to be of a special kind, and ought, I think, to be dealt with exceptionally. It would, undoubtedly, be a hardship if these gentlemen were required to pay the same fee as ordinary Magistrates.
