ROBERT AMBROSE (Mayo, W.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if there is any Rule or custom limiting the time during which a Resident Magistrate may be allowed to remain in a particular district; and, if not, would he consider the desirability of limiting the continuance of Resident Magistrates in particular districts to a fixed term of years?
MR. J. MORLEYThere is no Rule or custom of the nature indicated in the question, and I am not sure that it would be expedient for me to fix a time limit as suggested. A considerable number of Resident Magistrates have been five years and upwards at their present stations, and transfers are sometimes carried out at the request of Magistrates themselves for family reasons.
