HC Deb 10 May 1894 vol 24 c790
MR. HERBERT LEWIS (Flint, &c)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether any, and if so what, County and Borough Councils have delegated to the Justices their powers and duties, under "The Local Government Act, 1888,"with respect to the licensing of houses or places for the public performance of stage plays; and whether it is competent for any Council, which has so delegated its powers and duties, at any time to withdraw such delegation and thenceforth to exercise such powers itself?

MR. SHAW-LEFEVRE

I have no information as to the cases referred to, and the Local Government Board have no authority in the matter. I may, however, state generally that it would appear that a power to delegate would include a power to withdraw such delegation.
