HC Deb 08 May 1894 vol 24 cc608-9
SIR M. STEWART (Kirkcudbright)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if the Church of Scotland Bill, introduced by the hon. Member for the College Division of Glasgow, is the measure foreshadowed in Her Majesty's most Gracious Speech, and is intended to take the place of the promised Government Bill; and, if not, do the Government propose to bring in a Bill this Session to disestablish and disendow the Church of Scotland?

SIR G. TREVELYAN

(who replied) said: It does not appear likely in the state of public business that the Government will at present be able to introduce the Bill mentioned in Her Majesty's most Gracious Speech.

SIR M. STEWART

Do the Government propose to take over the Bill of the hon. Member for the College Division and make it their own?

SIR G. TREVELYAN

I have answered the question in a single word.
