HC Deb 07 May 1894 vol 24 cc485-6
SIR C. W. DILKE (Gloucester, Forest of Dean)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government are aware of the hardships suffered by the petitioners in the Costa Rica Packet case, owing to the delay in the settlement of the claim; and whether it is in the power of the Government to make any further statement with regard to the present position of the matter?

THE UNDER SECBETABY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir E, GREY,) Northumberland, Berwick

The whole circumstances of the case have been very carefully considered by Her Majesty's Government, and a renewed representation on the subject is being addressed to the Netherlands Government by Her Majesty's Minister at the Hague, with the object of obtaining compensation for the captain of the Costa Rica Packet with as little delay as possible. No further statement can be made until the result of this representation is known.

SIR C. W. DILKE

Has the case of the owners and crew been dropped?

SIR E. GREY

The case of the owners and crew has never been put forward.
