HC Deb 01 March 1894 vol 21 cc1134-5
MR. WHITELEY (Stockport)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the serious dislocation and injury which the cotton trade in Lancashire and Cheshire is suffering owing to the recent heavy fall in the gold price of silver; and whether the Government will consider the advisability, or otherwise, of inviting the re-assembly of the International Monetary Conference?

*THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir W. HARCOURT,) Derby

The Government have received no intimation of the desire of any Foreign Government to assemble an International Monetary Conference, and they have no intention themselves of making a proposal of that kind, in which they see no advantage.
