HC Deb 15 June 1894 vol 25 cc1215-6
MR. KEARLEY

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether he has favourably considered the Petition submitted to him from the staff of the Central Telegraph Office at the end of last year; and whether he has arrived at any decision in relation thereto?

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. A. MORLEY, Nottingham, E.)

I have, with the consent of the Treasury, recently made an important addition to the staff of the Central Telegraph Office, which has enabled me to make as many as 102 promotions, of which 94 were from the Second to the First Class. This increase to the staff will improve the position and prospects of the telegraphists employed, and will also enable the Controller to dispense with the greater part of the overtime hitherto performed. The circumstances do not appear to me to warrant any further changes.
