HC Deb 12 June 1894 vol 25 cc905-6
MR. SWEETMAN (Wicklow, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the Adjutant of the County Wicklow Militia, the County Surveyor, and the Clerk of the Peace and Crown, reside in the County of Wicklow; and whether he can take any steps to secure that these county officials should reside near where their duties have to be performed?

MR. J. MORLEY

I understand that the Clerk of the Crown and Peace and the Adjutant of the Militia both reside in the County of Wicklow. As regards the County Surveyor, I am informed that he resides near Dublin, but I am not aware of any statutory obligation requiring him to reside in his county, nor have I any reason to believe that his residence in Dublin interferes with the due performacne of his duties.

MR. M'CARTAN (Down, S.)

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Clerk of the Peace for the County of Antrim resides in London for the greater part of the year?

MR. J. MORLEY

I cannot say.
