HC Deb 05 June 1894 vol 25 c412
MR. MAGUIRE (Clare, W.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether, in view of the extra taxation about to be imposed upon Ireland, he is now prepared to direct a Board of Works engineer to investigate Kilrush Harbour, with the object of considering the advisability of making a public loan or grant to deepen the harbour?

MR. J. MORLEY

Applications for the grant of public money for the improvement of Kilrush Harbour have been before the Irish Government from time to time, and one of the latest applications, received in January of last year, asked for a grant of £100,000 for the purpose. I regret I can now only repeat the answer which the Government has been compelled to give to all these applications—namely, that it has no funds at its disposal out of which a grant of money could be made for improving this harbour.
