HC Deb 04 June 1894 vol 25 c310
MR. M. AUSTIN

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if it is his intention to have a female Inspector of Factories appointed for Ireland?

MR. ASQUITH

No female Inspector is appointed for any particular place; they are all peripatetic, and it is not my intention to make any change in this respect. The present lady Inspectors have given and will continue to give special attention to Irish industries.

MR. M. AUSTIN

Is it not a fact that the importance of the linen industry in the North of Ireland justifies the appointment of a special female Inspector?

MR. ASQUITH

I do not think so.
