HC Deb 01 June 1894 vol 25 c177
MR. D. THOMAS (Merthyr Tydfil)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the death of a man engaged in a boxing contest held at Aberdare on the 17th instant; whether the law permits a prize fight to be carried on under the guise of a glove contest; and, if so, will he take steps to amend the law so as to prohibit such contests?

MR. ASQUITH

The case to which my hon. Friend refers is about to be tried at the Assizes; under these circumstances, it would not be proper for me to express any opinion.
