HC Deb 31 July 1894 vol 27 c1401
MR. BARTON (Armagh, Mid)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he has yet received the Official Report of the proceedings of the Board of Governors of the Carlow District Lunatic Asylum, held on the 13th instant; is he aware that the Board of Governors proceeded to elect an assistant medical officer on that day; that the resident medical superintendent had by advertisement notified that the election would not take place on that day, and by letter informed one of the candidates that it would not take place; and that the agenda papers distributed to the Governors contained no notice that the election would take place; whether the election held under the circumstances on that date was invalid; and whether an opportunity will be given to the Governors of holding a valid election?

MR. J. MORLEY

The Minutes of the Proceedings of the Board of Governors at their meeting held on the 13th instant has been submitted to the Government. The question of the validity of the election to the office of assistant medical officer is at present under the consideration of the Law Officers, and, pending their opinion on the matter, it is inadvisable to discuss the details arising out of the election.
