I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he can state the total number of pauper children in this country, the number of pauper children emigrated to the colonies during the last 12 months, and the number of pauper children who have been boarded out during the same period?

The total number of pauper children in this country on the 1st of January last was 249,000, of whom 60,800 were receiving indoor relief. The number whose emigration was authorised by the Local Government Board during the year 1893 was 360. The number boarded out on the 1st of January last was 5,465.
