HC Deb 12 January 1894 vol 20 cc1432-3
DR. FARQUIIARSON (Aberdeenshire, W.)

On behalf of the hon. Member for East Aberdeenshire, I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland what steps are being taken to secure to prison warders in Scotland a limitation of the hours of labour similar to that which is being granted in other Government establishments?

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Sir G. TREVELYAN,) Glasgow, Bridgeton

The prison warders in Scotland have received a substantial reduction in hours of day and night duty consequent on the recommendation of a Departmental Commission which reported in February, 1892. I do not at present contemplate any further change; and, in any case, I would not make it without consultation with the Secretary of State for the Home Department.
