HC Deb 04 January 1894 vol 20 c822
MR. J. BURNS

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will direct the attention of the Police Authorities to the increasing practice in some districts of London of publicans selling drink to drunken persons, and cause such steps to be taken as will prevent the continuance of such breaches of the law?

MR. ASQUITH

The Police Authorities are not aware of any material increase in this practice, but their special attention has been from time to time, and will be again, directed to it, and their instructions are to enforce the law with the utmost strictness wherever an offence against it comes to their knowledge.

MR. CONYBEARE (Cornwall, Camborne)

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he will instruct the police to take note of any cases where inducements are held out to children?

MR. ASQUITH

Yes, Sir.
