HC Deb 02 January 1894 vol 20 c653
MR. HARRY FOSTER

I beg to ask the Vice President of the Committee of Council on Education whether he will consider, in the division of the New Code, the question of making provision that swimming and suitable physical exercises shall be subjects for which grants may be paid?

MR. ACLAND

Swimming is already taught in some schools, and physical exercises in many. I think that physical exercises should be part of the ordinary curriculum and organisation of every school, and I am considering this matter with next year's Code. But I am not aware that the introduction of such exercises would entail expense to the Managers, which it would be necessary to meet with a grant.
