HC Deb 15 February 1894 vol 21 cc453-4
MR. HALLEY STEWART

On behalf of the hon. Member for Northwich, I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consider the advisability of extending the proposed legislation, which would give the Secretary of State power to deal with the unreasonably long hours of labour in dangerous trades, and will make it apply to all trades involving continuous day and night work, in which the hours of labour shall seem to him to be of unreasonable and harmful length?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. ASQUITH,) Fife, E.

I am not, at the present moment, in a position to make any definite statement on the subject of the proposed legislation; but I can assure my hon. Friend that the point to which he refers will receive careful attention.
