HENNIKER HEATON (Canterbury)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that in certain portions of North Behar the ryots have combined with the zemindars to express their strong objection to the cadastral survey, their entire satisfaction with existing arrangements, and their dread of the exactions of the survey officials; and whether the Government of Bengal can be requested to arrange that the survey shall not be enforced in these villages?
§ MR. H. H. FOWLERI am not aware of the particular circumstances to which the hon. Member refers; but I see no reason for directing that any villages should be withdrawn from the scope of the survey, which have been decided upon after the fullest consideration.
