§ MR. EVERETT (Suffolk, Woodbridge)I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether he has considered the question of putting a statue of Oliver Cromwell in some part of the Palace at Westminster; and whether he will be able to gratify the wish of many that there shall be such an addition to the statues there?
§ THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. H. GLADSTONE, Leeds, W.)No series of historical personages can be complete without the inclusion of Cromwell. As I have already said, I have no funds at my disposal this year to defray the cost of a statue; but I have obtained the sanction of my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer for making the necessary provision in the Estimates for next year.
