§ THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. S. BUXTON,) Tower Hamlets, PoplarSir J. Thurston's Commission as Governor was dated the 9th December, 1887, and he assumed the government on the 27th February, 1888, from which day the usual six years will date. In reply to the second question, I may say that it is not usual to extend the term of a Colonial Governor beyond six years, but it has been done.
