HC Deb 14 September 1893 vol 17 cc1149-50
SIR R. TEMPLE (Surrey, Kingston)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that breaches, owing to floods of the Indus, have been so frequent in the railway leading to Karachi, in Scinde, as to interfere seriously with the trade of that port; and whether he will ascertain what steps are being taken by the Government to prevent recurrence of the difficulty?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. G. RUSSELL,) North Beds.

The Secretary of State is aware, from notices in the newspapers, of the damage caused by the recent floods to the line of the North Western Railway in the neighbourhood of Karachi. The Secretary of State is confident that the Government of India will spare no effort to maintain the efficiency of the railway communications with Karachi, and sees no reason to call for a special Report.
