§ SIR G. TREVELYANThe Draft Ordinance relating to the Chalmers Chair of English Literature in Aberdeen University is, I am informed by the Secretary to the Universities Commission, awaiting consideration of objections when the Commission resumes its sittings in October or November, and cannot be laid before Parliament till the, Autumn Session. I do not, therefore, see that the Ordinance can be laid before the Queen in Council till March, 1894, and fear the appointment to the Chair must be deferred till after that date.
