HC Deb 07 September 1893 vol 17 cc467-8
MR. DARLING (Deptford)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether it is in contemplation by the Government to improve in any way the pay or position of extra outdoor officers of Customs in the Port of London?

SIR J. T. HIBBERT

The pay and conditions of employment of extra outdoor officers of Customs in the Port of London have been recently improved under Treasury authority dated June 16 last.

MR. DARLING

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether there is any intention to further improve the conditions under which those men are employed?

SIR J. T. HIBBERT

The conditions under which these men were employed were very fully considered, and it was felt that a great improvement in their behalf was effected by placing a large number on weekly instead of daily employment and wages.
