HC Deb 28 November 1893 vol 18 c1920
DR. R. AMBROSE

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he is aware that the only male school in Westport, County Mayo, is the Christian Brothers' School, and that, although the Town Commissioners are willing to adopt "The Irish Education Act, 1892," they are unable to put the Compulsory Clauses into force owing to the fact that those schools are not included in the Government grant for educational purposes; and if he will take such steps as will enable the Town Commissioners to comply with the Act?

MR. ASQUITH (for Mr. J. MORLEY)

The resolution does not state that the only male school in Westport is the Christian Brothers' School, but that there is no school in the town for Roman Catholic boys except the Christian Brothers' Schools. In reply to the second paragraph, the matter is still under the consideration of the Irish Government.
