HC Deb 24 November 1893 vol 18 c1696
MR. FIELD

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant, of Ireland whether the Local Government Board auditors, Ireland, are permitted to act as Directors of Public Companies, or auditors of same; and whether, if that be not lawful, steps will be taken to prevent this being done?

MR. J. MORLEY

The Local Government Board inform me that they communicated to their auditors the Treasury Rule on the subject of the acceptance of Directorships of Public Companies, and that it has not come to the Board's knowledge that any of their officers have failed to comply with the Rule. Some of the auditors, with the Board's permission, audit the accounts of Light Railways, Harbour Boards, and other Public Boards, but the Board are not aware that any of them act as auditors of Public Commercial Companies.

MR. FIELD

If I give the right hon. Gentleman private information in regard to the practice of certain gentlemen, will he put a stop to it?

MR. J. MORLEY

I will, of course, attend to any information that is given me on the subject.
