HC Deb 23 November 1893 vol 18 c1556
MR. LABOUCHERE

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether, in view of the Resolution of this House of May last, in regard to the County Magistracy, Her Majesty's Government accepts the responsibility of giving effect to this opinion?

MR. W. E. GLADSTONE

The answer to this question is very simple. Her Majesty's Government frankly accept responsibility for what has been done in relation to the County Magistracy, and do intend to carry into effect the Resolution in the spirit in which it was adopted. Of course, the method of carrying it out must be in accordance with the machinery at the disposal of the Executive, and by the particular member of the Government whose province it was to deal with it.
