HC Deb 23 November 1893 vol 18 cc1533-4
MR. MACARTNEY (Antrim, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the examinations under the Board of Intermediate Education ended on 24th June last; that the pass lists were not published until 5th September; and the prize lists not until 18th September; and whether any steps can be taken to accelerate the publication of these lists?

MR. ASQUITH (for Mr. J. MORLEY)

The dates given in the question are, I understand, correct. The Assistant Commissioners of the Board of Intermediate Education inform me that all possible expedition is used in bringing out the results of the examinations. In the present year there was a large increase in the number of candidates examined, and the Board adopted a new and complicated system of counting marks towards exhibitions and prizes which necessitated elaborate calculations.
