§ * MR. ASQUITHThe Scheme of 1890 provided for a staff sufficient for the prisons and population which existed in 1890. Since then, Chatham Convict Prison has been closed and the staff had to be absorbed. The vacancy at Derby was made use of to absorb a storekeeper from Chatham.
