HC Deb 07 November 1893 vol 18 c354
SIR C. W. DILKE (Gloucester, Forest of Dean)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies whether we are practically at war with Ashantee? There is a rumour to that effect.

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. S. BUXTON,) Tower Hamlets, Poplar

I cannot affirm or deny the statements that have been published with regard to affairs in Ashantee. We, no doubt, have had some trouble with the Ashantees, but we are not at war with them.
