HC Deb 03 November 1893 vol 18 cc112-3
MR. SEYMOUR KEAY (Elgin and Nairn)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether Her Majesty's Government is in a position to give any information to the House as to the general object of Sir Mortimer Durand's present Mission to the Ameer of Afghanistan: and, if specific information cannot be given, can Her Majesty's Government convey an assurance to the House that the existing engagements of the Government of India will not be enlarged in the direction of guaranteeing the integrity of the north-west frontier of Afghanistan?

* THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. George RUSSELL,) North Beds.

I am afraid the time has not yet arrived when any information hearing upon the negotiations pending with the Ameer of Afghanistan can possibly he made public. But I may add that the Ameer has received Sir M. Durand with much cordiality.
