HC Deb 16 May 1893 vol 12 c1040
SIR WILLIAM WEDDERBURN

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether there is any Regulation in force in the Bombay Presidency which requires that the Chief Magistrate of the Presidency Police Court should be a practising barrister; and whether a Junior Magistrate of the same Court, being a barrister, is disqualified because he is debarred from practising by reason of his magisterial duties?

MR. GEORGE RUSSELL

No, Sir. The Secretary of State knows of no such Regulations as those to which my hon. Friend refers. It is obvious, therefore, that, so far as he is aware, no Junior Magistrate can be disqualified in the manner suggested.
