HC Deb 16 May 1893 vol 12 cc1041-2
MR. HOGAN (Tipperary, Mid)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the new steamship service between Australia and Canada viâ Honolulu has been brought to the notice of his Department; whether he has received any representations in this connection on behalf of the Canadian and Australian Governments; and whether, having regard to the utility and importance of this now link of communication between two great divisions of the Empire, he is in a position to give any assurance of Imperial recognition and support in conjunction with the Canadian and Australian Governments?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. S. BUXTON,) Tower Hamlets, Poplar

An application was lately received by the Colonial Office, and by them communicated to the Admiralty, that the subvention for armed cruisers may be granted to the steamships in question. The application is now under consideration.
