HC Deb 09 May 1893 vol 12 c457
MR. T. M. MEALY

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he has since received any information as to the signing of anti-Home Rule Petitions in the Berry Lunatic Asylum?

MR. J. MORLEY

I am informed that no such Petition was prepared in the asylum, but that one was presented by outsiders for signatures to the officers of the institution who wished to sign it. No pressure was put upon any officer to sign.

MR. T. M. HEALY

Is anybody allowed to go into an asylum and ask the warders and lunatics to sign Petitions?

[No answer was given.]
