§ MR. P. A. M'HUGH (Leitrim, N.)beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland when he proposes to make his statement promised on the 1st May as to the whole system of the appointment of County Magistrates in Ireland, and the action which the Lord Chancellor will be prepared to take?
THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. J. MORLEY,) Now-castle-upon-TyneThe only statement which I think it useful to make is that the Lord Chancellor, acting on precedent set by some of his predecessors in Office, and confirmed by Resolution of this House of May 5, has prepared a list of additional Magistrates for counties without the recommendation of the Lieutenants of these counties. Some of these lists —including that affecting the county which the hon. Member represents—will be published in the course of a day or two.
