HC Deb 08 May 1893 vol 12 cc325-6
COMMANDER BETHELL (York, E. R., Holderness)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can state the amounts of the Succession and Estate Duties paid respectively by land and other real property in each of the three divisions of the United Kingdom?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir W. HARCOURT,) Derby

The figures can only be given approximately. As nearly as I can state them, the amounts of the Succession and Estate Duties paid by land and real property, including houses, for 1892–3 was £1,245,000 (Succession Duty, £1,166,000; Estate Duty, £79,000). Of this sum, about £1,020,000 falls to the share of England, about £100,000 to Ireland, and about £120,000 to Scotland.
