§ MR. DARLING (Deptford)In the absence of the hon. Baronet the Member for South Bristol, I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has seen the official Report of Super intendent Elliott, Chief of the Hull Police Fire Brigade, respecting the recent fire at the Citadel Estate in that city; and, if so, whether he will communicate to the House the purport of the information therein contained; and whether he is aware that a man has recently died in the workhouse at Duffield in consequence of alleged ill-treatment at the hands of the pickets in Hull?
§ MR. ASQUITHI have seen Superintendent Elliott's Report in the newspapers, but it is a Report made to the Corporation, and I have no official knowledge of it, nor do I see any reason why it should be communicated. I have no knowledge as to the allegations in the second paragraph, but I have sent to the Chief Constable asking for information.
