HC Deb 04 May 1893 vol 12 c78
MR. KEIR HARDIE

I wish to ask the Home Secretary a question of which I have given him private Notice. Has the right hon. Gentleman's attention been called to the action of the police at Hull, and its effect on picketing; and will he instruct the police not to interfere with the pickets so long as they keep within the law?

MR. ASQUITH

As I only had the Notice on coming into the House, I have had no opportunity of inquiring into the allegations of the hon. Member, but I will see that inquiry is made. It is well known, by the police as well as by all persons concerned, that picketing is perfectly legal as long as it is conducted in an orderly manner and without violence.
