MR. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether the promised improvement in the lighting and marking of the Bristol Channel and the south coast of Ireland is being carried out; and whether the moneys collected as light dues from ships for this purpose have been so expended?
§ MR. MUNDELLAA commencement has been made with the improvement in the lighting and marking of the Bristol Channel, and it will be further proceeded with as funds permit. With regard to the south coast of Ireland, I am not aware to what promise the hon. Member refers. All moneys collected as light dues are paid into the Mercantile Marine Fund, and expended strictly in accordance with the Merchant Shipping Acts.
