HC Deb 16 March 1893 vol 10 c245
MR. HORACE PLUNKETT

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he will explain why the clerks in the National Education Office, Dublin, are only granted a half-holiday every alternate Saturday instead of every Saturday, as is the case in other public offices in Dublin?

MR. J. MORLEY

By Order in Council of 19th August, 1890, Section 6, it is prescribed that— Officers who are required to attend seven hours a day shall be allowed a half holiday on alternate Saturdays, provided that the Heads of Departments in which such officers are serving are satisfied that the state of public business will permit. The Commissioners of National Education have applied this regulation, and they know of no other rule on the subject.
