HC Deb 13 March 1893 vol 9 c1839
MR. PATRICK M'HUGH (Armagh, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the foreman of the Grand Jury of Sligo at the recent Assizes expressed the opinion that an extra police force was not required in the County Sligo; and will he take steps to remove any extra police force now in that county, so as to prevent extra taxation being levied on the ratepayers of the Town and County of Sligo?

MR. J. MORLEY

I am informed that the foreman of the Grand Jury stated he had received from the Divisional Commissioner a letter inquiring whether three men of the extra force could be dispensed with. The foreman and Grand Jury concurred in the opinion that this reduction might be made, and Government have directed that it should take effect from the 1st instant.
