HC Deb 11 March 1893 vol 9 c1715
MR. TAYLOR (Norfolk, S.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty why chief, staff, and fleet engineers, who, according to the official Navy List of January, 1893, were entitled to the option of retiring at the age of 50, are now compulsorily retained, serving for five years longer; and whether in consideration of five years' compulsory additional service their rates of pay and retirement may be made, at least, equivalent to those accorded to medical and accountant officers?

SIR U. KAY-SIIUTTLEWORTH

The optional retirement of engineers at the age of 50 years has been suspended. The Regulations do not admit of the payment of more than the maximum rates of pay.

MR. TAYLOR

I shall raise this question on the Estimates.
