HC Deb 10 March 1893 vol 9 cc1602-3
MR. ROBERT WALLACE

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, and how soon, Papers will be laid upon the Table in connection with the recent slaughter of natives in Somaliland, and with the conduct of the acting Consul General of East Africa respecting the succession to the Sultanate of Zanzibar?

SIR E. GREY

No Report from the Company's agent has been communicated to us. It is presumed that he was too ill to write. Mr. Rodd, who afterwards visited Kismayu, has reported that all is quiet. Despatches respecting the events following the death of the Sultan of Zanzibar cannot he received for some weeks.

MR. R. WALLACE

Is the present Sultan the legal successor of the late Sultan?

SIR E. GREY

I must ask for notice of that question.
