HC Deb 10 March 1893 vol 9 cc1599-600
MR. ARTHUR O'CONNOR

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland when the capita- tion grant, in lieu of school fees, will be paid to the teachers in East Donegal?

MR. WOLFF (Belfast, E.)

At the same time, I beg to ask the Chief Secretary whether, in consideration of the Irish Education Bill of last year substituting capitation grants in place of school fees, and in consideration of there being no provision made at present for payment of these grants, he will give the matter his earliest attention with a view of doing away with the great hardship now inflcited upon the National school teachers?

MR. J. MORLEY

With regard to this question, I have stated within the past week that the issue of the capitation grant awaits the passing of the Supplementary Estimates, and that payment will be made as soon as possible after the money becomes available.
