§ MR. JOHNSTONI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that, during the year ending 31st December, 1892, the Parliamentary grant from the Imperial Exchequer, for various purposes, to the Belfast Union amounted to £14,230; and whether, in view of the proposed changes in the relations between the Imperial Government and the Belfast Union, he can state, if these grants be withdrawn, what the increase to the poor rate will be in the Union?
MR. J. MORLEYThe first paragraph correctly states the fact. The total amount named—namely, £14,230, will represent a poundage rate of 3|d. on the Union valuation unless the Irish Government of the day should continue the payments.
