HC Deb 03 March 1893 vol 9 c978
MAJOR RASCH (Essex, S.E.)

May I ask when the Committee on Agriculture will be appointed?

SIR W. HARCOURT

The appointment of the Committee depends on the action of the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Sleaford and the supporters of the Amendment of which he has given notice. The Minister for Agriculture is very anxious to proceed with the matter, but the Amendment of the right hon. Gentleman is practically an Amendment designed to defeat the Motion. Therefore, the question of when the Motion will be brought forward depends upon the conduct of the supporters of the Amendment.

MR. MACARTNEY (Antrim, S.)

Are not the Government supposed to have a majority in this House? I cannot, in the circumstances, quite understand what the right hon. Gentleman means.
