HC Deb 03 March 1893 vol 9 c972
MR. CHARLES SHAW (Stafford)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in any future negotiations which may be entered upon with the French Government with regard to the questions connected with the Newfoundland fisheries, the Government will take into consideration the necessity of obtaining a reduction of the prohibitory tariffs at present imposed upon British goods, especially fish hooks, levied as and from 10th January, 1893, in the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelow?

SIR E. GREY

The hardship inflicted by the present tariffs will be borne in mind in any future negotiations with the French Government.
