HC Deb 02 March 1893 vol 9 cc814-5
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to a number of attacks upon the Prime Minister in The Gibraltar Chronicle and Official Gazette; whether he is aware that this is the official organ of the colony; and whether the Colonial Office will take any steps to deal with the matter?

MR. S. BUXTON

The attention of the Secretary of State has been called to the matter referred to. In an ordinary newspaper the paragraphs in question would have called for no remark. But it is distinctly improper that Party and personal attacks of this nature should appear in a newspaper which is designated the Official Gazette, and in which appear all official notifications, &c. The question of the continuance of The Gibraltar Chronicle as the medium of issuing public notices is under consideration.
