HC Deb 30 June 1893 vol 14 c547
MR. J. E. ELLIS (Nottingham, Rushcliffe)

May I ask the hon. Baronet the Member for the Barnard Castle Division whether there is any truth in the report that he does not intend to press to a Division his Resolution on the Opium Traffic?

MR. SPEAKER

The hon. Baronet has no Notice on the Paper.

MR. J. E. ELLIS

I may, perhaps, explain I noticed that the hon. Member for West Waterford was in the House, and, therefore, I asked the question by arrangement with the hon. Baronet. Still, I will now ask the hon. Member for West Waterford if he intends to press his Motion to a Division?

MR. WEBB (Waterford, W.)

Certainly, Sir.

SIR J. PEASE (Durham, Barnard Castle)

May I say, with reference to the paragraphs in this morning's paper that those interested in this question are prepared to accept the conditions suggested by the Government, that they are without foundation. As the proposal differs from our views in many particulars, I am afraid we shall have to trouble the House to go to a Division.
